barnacled at idyllic kandooma
From afar and above, Kandooma’s structures are reminiscent of rocky outcrops. Using barnacles as a design metaphor, Kandooma's main structures were created by eco.id to resemble these crustaceans on this sunny atoll. Its segmented acorn shape has been deftly interpreted into half-round, reed thatched buildings with ribbed interiors and circular skylights.
To add a contemporary dash, white tensile membranes slickly "web" the barnacles together as a family to create a fringe for shady outdoor sitting areas. The thatched finish of the barnacles and the white tensile membranes compliment each other, adding something different and contemporary to the indigenous.
“To capture an idyllic life by the sea, we gave Kandooma a white-washed theme with turquoise blue accents to complement the ocean. We styled the villas like beach shack homes with large picture windows. Walls and floors were finished in white washed timber and accents of blue are used in the cushions and rug.” says Calvin Sim. “We’ve created Kandooma as a getaway to ‘Celebrate life, Love life and Live life as was the mantra given.” Its 160 villas comprising beach and garden villas, two-storey duplex villas and water villas cater to active people and families and give an unforgettable taste of island living.” Click here to read more.
